The air cargo figures are blamed on the slower economy. The lower passenger numbers also can be attributed to the economy and to post-Sept. 11 fears.
In November, air cargo totaled 25 million pounds and 299 million pounds for the year-to-date. International air cargo, which has shown growth throughout the year, was down 31% in November, totaling 1.2 million pounds. For the year, however, international air cargo has grown more than 150% over the first 11 months of 2000. At 19 million pounds, international shipments remain a small portion of the total.
Passenger traffic totaled 528,120 passengers in November. The 20% decrease matched the national drop off in passenger traffic. Year-to-date passenger traffic at Austin-Bergstrom totaled 6,671,553.
