DENVER-Buell Theatre ranked No. 2 nationally for total gross sales for venues with a seating capacity of 5,000 or less, according to Billboard/Amusement Business magazine. Denver-based Buell grossed $19.35 million for 220 shows in 2001.

Larger venues such as the Fox Theatre in Detroit and the Rosemont Theatre outside Chicago trailed the Buell in gross sales and the number of shows.

The Buell Theatre seats 2,830. The highest-ranking theatre in the category, the Fox Theatre in Georgia, is almost twice as big, with 4,600 seats. Its 240 shows grossed $26.07 million in 2001.
