"We're prepared for a sizable investment; somewhere north of $10 million," Clyde's Executive Vice President Tom Meyer tells GlobeSt.com. Part of that investment includes the purchase and transportation of two 100-year old barns from Vermont. "We will use those for private functions--meeting space, weddings Bar Mitzvahs and what-have-you," Meyer explains. While the company estimates that the restaurant could be as large as 20,000sf, the establishment's size has yet to be settled upon, and an architect has not been chosen. However, Clyde's is working with Vermont's Weather Hill Restoration, the firm that is handling the transportation and reassembling of the barns.

Off the Dulles Greenway Tollroad, Broadlands is still a work in progress and will ultimately be home to 3,500 families, and a substantial amount of retail shops and office spaces. Developed by Terrabrook and Van Metre Cos., the community will have an approximately 175,000 sf shopping center to call its own sometime this year.

In addition to the pleasant and "beautiful" surrounding--wetlands, a nature walk and an expansive park--Clyde's chose the Broadlands for its new project because of the area's access to a wide-ranging clientele. "We thought it was a great spot because it's surrounded by a lot of homes, and soon it will be surrounded by lots of retail space," Meyer notes. "It gives us the opportunity to be busy 14 times a week--lunch and dinner every day. WorldCom and AOL headquarters are in close proximity, so it is a logical place to be." He continues, "we can draw from a much wider circle [at this location]."
