ASHBURN, VA-Popular Washington, DC-area restaurateurs Clyde’s Restaurant Group is planning to open a country inn and restaurant in the 1,500-acre suburban planned community Broadlands, located about 30 miles outside of the District. The company has not settled on a name for the new establishment and other design details are still in the works, but the estimated financial investment–upwards of $10 million–is pretty much set in stone.

“We’re prepared for a sizable investment; somewhere north of $10 million,” Clyde’s Executive Vice President Tom Meyer tells GlobeSt.com. Part of that investment includes the purchase and transportation of two 100-year old barns from Vermont. “We will use those for private functions–meeting space, weddings Bar Mitzvahs and what-have-you,” Meyer explains. While the company estimates that the restaurant could be as large as 20,000sf, the establishment’s size has yet to be settled upon, and an architect has not been chosen. However, Clyde’s is working with Vermont’s Weather Hill Restoration, the firm that is handling the transportation and reassembling of the barns.

Off the Dulles Greenway Tollroad, Broadlands is still a work in progress and will ultimately be home to 3,500 families, and a substantial amount of retail shops and office spaces. Developed by Terrabrook and Van Metre Cos., the community will have an approximately 175,000 sf shopping center to call its own sometime this year.
