Public Comment Wanted on Transmission Line

SAN DIEGO-A study to determine the environmental effect of a 500,000-volt electric transmission line project linking San Diego County with the rest of Southern California is now accepting public comment.

SAN DIEGO-The U.S. Interior Department has called for public comment on a study to determine the environmental effect of a 500,000-volt electric transmission line project linking San Diego County with the rest of Southern California.

The $271 million project would provide another connection between the transmission systems of Edison International’s Southern California Edison and Sempra Energy’s San Diego Gas and Electric.

The companies also said the line would help meet the growing demand for electricity in Southern California. According to estimates, San Diego will suffer from a 46-megawatt electricity shortfall for the next three years, growing to 199 MW in 2006 and higher in following years.
