The 14,490 sf store, planned on two acres by Monarch Towne Center Ltd., will have two drive-up pharmacy lanes. The project's cost is expected to approach $4 million. The store is expected to open by the end of the year.

This is the latest in a series of development approvals for the Interstate 75 interchange area. A Republic Security Bank branch has received site plan approval, and a Wachovia Bank branch was recently completed on Miramar Parkway, just east of the proposed Walgreens site.

Just north of the Walgreens site, the Monarch Gardens mixed-use development, which will include retail stores and professional offices, is under construction.
