Coffee Chain to Develop More Cafes in Hawaii

SEATTLE-Seattle's Best Coffee, a subsidiary of AFC Enterprises Inc., plans to develop 14 cafes in the Hawaiian Islands. Four such shops already have been developed, the most recent in the Pearlridge Mall in Honolulu on the island of Oahu.

SEATTLE-Seattle’s Best Coffee is branching out again. The locally-based subsidiary of AFC Enterprises Inc. (Nasdaq: AFCE) has entered into a development agreement with existing franchisee GMS Corp. to develop 14 cafes in the Hawaiian islands. GMS already has opened four cafes in Hawaii.

“This is an exciting development for us because not only are we reaching new customers in the state of Hawaii, we are further accommodating our traveling guests,” says Steve Schickler, president of Seattle Coffee Co., parent company of Seattle’s Best Coffee.

The agreement is to develop 14 cafes in Hawaii and gives exclusive development rights for Seattle’s Best Coffee cafes in the Hawaiian islands to GMS. Following the opening of the Pearlridge Mall location, the remaining 10 cafes will open throughout the islands during thenext five years in the form of cafes, kiosks and carts in a variety of locations including hotels, resorts, malls and neighborhood shopping centers.
