Ford Continues Dagenham Cutbacks With Two More Land sales

LONDON-Ford Motor Company has continued the contraction of its massive manufacturing plant at Dagenham in east London. Two recent land sales bring to 250 acres the total amount of land it has transferred to the London Development Agency. And more sales are expected.

LONDON-The London Development Agency is working alongside the Ford Motor Company to manage the contraction of the massive Dagenham car plant in east London. Ford has occupied the site since the 1920s but the transfer of production to cheaper locations means much of the site has become surplus to requirements, and the LDA has drawn up comprehensive plans for regenerating the area.

In the latest transfer, 96 acres of land known as the Acres, Beam Park and PTA sites have been sold to the LDA, subject to short leasebacks while Ford winds down its activities on the sites. This purchase brings the LDA’s total land acquisition in the Dagenham area to 250 acres and it has options to acquire more land. Redevelopment is already under way with the Centre of Excellence for Manufacturing and Engineering on a site near the new A13 trunk road.
