International Paper Closes Mill, Cuts 350 Jobs

STAMFORD, CT-While not nearly as severe as its job cuts announced last June, International Paper reports it will shut down an Oswego, N.Y. containerboard mill, eliminating a total of 350 jobs.

STAMFORD, CT-As part of its self-proclaimed “ongoing optimization efforts,” International Paper announces that it will close a containerboard facility in Oswego, NY, and eliminate a total of 350 jobs, or 10% of the mill workforce in its Industrial Packaging Group.

Also part of the reduction plan will be the elimination of 100,000 tons of containerboard capacity by the company.

Last year, International Paper, the world’s largest paper and forest-products company, relocated its headquarters operations from Purchase, N.Y., to downtown Stamford. In June of last year the firm cut 3,000 jobs from its global workforce.
