TROY, MI-Hotel room occupancy is still down in Michigan, and across the US, says a local hospitality consultant, but suburban hotels are seeing an increase in tenants since the Sept. 11 attacks. Occupancy rates are down about 15% in the state compared to 2000, says Ron Wilson, president of Hotel Investment Services.

However, says said there are two reasons for an upswing this month.

“The amount of business meetings and seminars displaced because of Sept. 11 are now occurring,” Wilson tells GlobeSt.com. “Plus, business people are getting used to the new strategies of traveling, such as dealing with security checks and waits at the airport, and so on.”
