Last fall, the public radio organization said it would pay $7.9 million to buy a nearby 68,000 sf building at 480 Cedar St. from the Public Housing Agency of St. Paul. That will be joined to its present 45,000-sf facility, with plans to add an additional 37,000 sf ofspace, creating a 150,000-sf headquarters and production facility.

MPR also is getting a $3.3 million forgivable loan from the city of St. Paul for the project, and plans to get grants from two other foundations as well as conduct a capital drive to pay for the improvements.
