The UC Davis building is part of the university's $354 million long-range facilities plan for the veterinary school, which is aimed at improving the school's accreditation status and preparing for growth over the next decade.

The university has already secured $11 million in funding from the state to supplement the project. The new building will be a 125,000-sf teaching, research and clinical facility, which is slated for completion in 2005.

The governor's visionary economic stimulus package is good news for the University of California and for the state of California," said UC Davis Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef. "We are grateful at UC Davis that the new facility for the School of Veterinary Medicine has been included in this plan and eager to play a role in the revitalization of California's economy."

If approved by state legislature, the funds would be part of a $279 million package for construction at seven UC campuses. UC Santa Cruz is included in the seven schools, and is expected to receive $41.2 million for a new engineering and instruction building.
