$350-Mil Development May Begin Soon

GIBRALTAR, MI-Made in Detroit wants to build 160 homes and an 18-hole golf course on land alongside the Detroit River. The plan is not without controversy, however.

GIBRALTAR, MI-The $350-million Humbug Marsh development here may finally get underway now that a lawsuit regarding the project has been dropped. Tina Bassett of Made in Detroit tells GlobeSt.com her company has been through litigation with the Army Corps. of Engineers regarding wetlands remediation.

The company’s project consists of about 160 high-priced homes and a golf course along the Detroit River, on a 400-acre piece of land formerly used as a dump and for duck hunting, Bassett says.

The company had permission from the state to remove 3.9 acres of wetlands if it created 12 acres of natural features, Bassett said. However, the Army disagreed with the plan.
