"I fully recognize that it would be inappropriate to fulfill my current responsibilities from outside Atlanta," Stone says in a prepared statement. "Accordingly, the company and I have agreed that once the board has reassigned my current duties, my role will be to manage the Texas operations as president-Texas, as well as to provide support for our corporate activities, including business development for the company."

Thomas G. Cousins, chairman and chief executive officer, expects the board to consider Stone's replacement at its February meeting.
