Downtown Courthouse Likely to Become Lofts

DETROIT-The 36th District Courthouse is too close to the new $300-million Ford Field, itself on schedule to open in time for the 2002 season, and will likely get caught up in a wave of redevelopment, local officials and brokers say.

DETROIT-According to members of Urban Land Institute of Detroit, the Ford Field football stadium construction in Downtown will bring more development when it opens for the 2002 season. After the new $300-million Detroit Lions field opens, the 36th District Court nearby will be moved to the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center by 2006, when the Super Bowl XL comes to town, according to a proposal in front of Wayne County and Detroit officials.

The county plans to build a new courthouse near I-75 and Lafayette.
