Water Rationing Ordinance Drawing Heat

SANTA FE, NM-The executive vice president of the Santa Fe Association of Realtors questions a proposed "water budget," as well as the need for it. Passage could inhibit growth, says Denise Keron.

SANTA FE, NM-Walk into almost any upscale restaurant in this tony town in northern New Mexico, about a six-hour drive south of Denver, and you’ll likely be greeted by a sign that reminds you that water is a precious commodity in this high-desert city and that you should be careful to conserve it. But the city is going too far with a proposed ordinance that would put into effect a ”water budget” to make sure an ample supply of water exists.

At least that is the opinion of Denise Keron, executive vice president of the Santa Fe Association of Realtors.

Keron, writing in the Santa Fe Real Estate Guide, a free publication that lists homes and some commercial properties for sale in Santa Fe, describes the proposed ordinance as an “anti-growth and anti-development bill which does not take into account the legitimate needs of the city for certain types of development and continued urban growth.”
