African-American Research Library On Tap

DENVER-Turner Construction and J. A. Walker Construction are building the 40,000-sf library at 2401 Welton St. in the Five Points area. Completion of the full-service branch library is expected next spring.

DENVER-Mayor Wellington Webb and other top city officials will be on hand on Feb. 2 when the Denver Public Library breaks ground on its African-American Research Library at 2401 Welton St. in the Five Points area. The 40,000-sf library is scheduled to open in the spring of 2003.

It will provide an educational and cultural resource that focuses on the history, literature, art, music, religion and politics of African-Americans in Denver and throughout the Rocky Mountain West.

”The African-American Research Library will be unique to Denver and the Rocky Mountain region,” says Denver Library Commission Vice President Landri C. Taylor. ”This library collection will celebrate contributions of the tremendous people that helped to build contemporary Western American life and culture.”
