The bathhouse is a one-story 3,082-square-foot building at the west end of Alki Beach Park on Alki Ave. SW at 60th Ave. SW. Since 1911, when a public pavilion was first constructed on the site, the structure has been through several major remodels and redefinitions of its use. The Alki Bathhouse Studio for the Fine Arts currently occupies a majority of the interior space. There are public restrooms located at each end of the building and the Parks maintenance crew has several storage rooms in the building.

The $412,000 budget for improvements to the exterior and interior of the building was included in the 2000 Pro Parks Levy. Approved by Seattle voters in 2000, the $198.2 million levy will fund more than 100 projects throughout the city over the next eight years.

In support of the Alki Bathhouse project, the Alki Advisory Council has secured a $10,000 grant from the Department of Neighborhoods. The Federal Emergency Management Agency will fund approximately $24,000 in earthquake-related damage repairs.

The community meeting to discuss the bathhouse project will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, in the cafeteria of Alki Elementary School, 3010 59th Ave. SW.
