The building will use two 100-ton absorption chiller-heater units. Natural gas and several rooftop solar panels will be used for the heating and air conditioning systems. The building also will have recycled carpet, tile and wood and a rainwater collection system.

"By integrating solar, photovoltaic, natural gas and water reclamation systems into the design and function of the Northside Customer Service Center, we're creating a showcase of energy-saving alternatives for CPS and its customers," Alan Demos, the center's project manager, says in a prepared statement. City officials say commercial customers can get real-time information on the economic benefits of natural gas-solar cooling as compared to conventional electrical cooling.
