While COPT is pleased with its success, the company remains grounded. Speaking to GlobeSt.com, COPT President and COO Randall "Rand" M. Griffin says, "it's a good result, but we don't try to compare ourselves to other REITs." Griffin continues, "the fact that we're three times higher than the Morgan Stanley Index is an accomplishment and we're very proud of that, but I would tend to focus on what the entire REIT sector has done in comparison to other indices. Holding the top position for three years, even while the general economy is in a slump, is confirmation of our strategy," Griffin adds.
"We're not trying to be national, we're in the Mid-Atlantic region and it happens to be a good market." As of early December last year, COPT's portfolio included a total of about 7.8 million sf of office space predominantly located in Maryland, Northern Virginia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
