The property is owned by the Nicholson Terminal and Dock Company Inc., which operates a marine terminal and storage facility there.
Nicholson proposes to complete the demolition of industrial structures and build a climate-controlled steel coil warehouse that will be leased to National Steel Corp. for the storage of steel coil used in its manufacturing operations. Besides returning the site to productive use, redevelopment will generate $12 million in private investment and 30 permanent jobs.
The reclamation program provides grant assistance to local units of government for environmental response activities at contaminated properties where redevelopment is proposed.
