Los Angeles-based Weston Communities Inc. has proposed a 30-acre project of up to 185,000 sf of retail and office space, 73 town homes and a park at the northwest corner of Valley Center and Cole Grade roads.

Developers unveiled plans for the grocery-anchored Town Square center at the Valley Center Planning Group meeting this week.

Plans call for red-tile roofs and adobe buildings. Weston intends to finalize the plans later this year and submit them to the San Diego County Planning Department. From there, plans will go to a local planning group and ultimately, the San Diego Board of Supervisors. Construction could start in the middle of 2003.

Town Square would include a 57,000-sf grocery store, drug store, several shops, two restaurants, a gas station and two, two-story office buildings. Several major supermarket chains are said to be interested, but no company has been selected.

Weston representatives say the 73 two-story town homes would average 1,800 sf and cost about $275,000.
