Construction should begin next month. The store would join eight others in the Austin area. Atlanta-based Home Depot is scheduled to open five stores in Texas in February. Three are in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and one each are near Houston and San Antonio.
The Home Depot development is at the intersection of Texas 71 and 304 on the east side of Bastrop. It joins a Wal-Mart Supercenter and an H-E-B grocery store as an anchor retailer. Bastrop, about 27 miles east of Austin, is the county seat of Bastrop County. More development is on the way. San Antonio's NAI/Rohde, Ottmers and Siegel plan a 400,000-sf retail center that's part of a planned 148-acre, mixed-use project near the Home Depot center.
