Among the groups receiving funds from FHLBA are: the Housing Authority of Baltimore City; Tri Churches Housing, Inc.; Reservoir Hill HOPE, Inc. Enterprise Housing Corp of Maryland, Inc.; Susquehanna Bank and Homes for America, Inc.; Garrett County Community Action Committee, Inc.; and Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington, Inc. The largest grant, $500,000, goes to The Housing Authority. Residents in the Baltimore, Berlin, McHenry and Waldorf area communities will be affected.
"Especially in metro areas, it's very hard to do low-income housing because the land is so expensive," FHLBA's Asia Grimes tells GlobeSt.com. "This type of funding allows non-profit developers and community organizations to purchase land and develop affordable housing." FHLBA also awarded $1.5 million to eight partnerships in Virginia, and additional funds to groups in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and North Carolina.
