The two competitors are East West Partners, based in Avon, CO, near Beaver Creek, and Vancouver, BC-based Intrawest.
East West, headed by Harry Frampton, who in 1982 was president of Vail Associates, has developed more than $1 billion in real estate in the mountains. Much of it is in the Vail Valley, where it is by far the largest developer. In addition, East West Partners is developing the $1 billion Riverfront luxury loft project in the Central Platte Valley. So far, the privately-held East West Partners has completed the first three buildings in the former railroad yards, with a completed value of about $100 million.
In Colorado, Intrawest operates and is developing Copper Mountain. Other resort properties in its portfolio include Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia, Tremblant inQuebec, and Stratton in Vermont. In its fiscal year, which ended last June 21, its profits rose 16.5% to $60.6 million.
In an interesting twist, East West and Intrawest are in a joint ventureto develop the Three Peaks golf and residential community in the mountaincommunity of Silverthorne.
