Buca Opens 3 Eateries, 11 More to Go in '02

MINNEAPOLIS-The Southern Italian restaurant chain says its fourth quarter revenues were up 21%, while its fourth-quarter income was down 22%. Openings this month were in Honolulu, Denver and Detroit.

MINNEAPOLIS-Buca, which this month has opened restaurants Honolulu, Denver and Detroit, plans to open 14 Buca di Beppo restaurants this year. The Minneapolis southern Italian style restaurant chain, now with 80 stores, expects to open seven restaurants in the first quarter, three restaurants in the second quarter, three in the third quarter and one restaurant early in the fourth quarter.

All 14 leases are signed and all but three of the new restaurants are currently under construction.

For the fourth quarter ended Dec. 30, Buca Inc. reported revenues of $48.3 million, up 21% from a year ago. After adjusting for the extra week in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2000, sales in the fourth quarter of 2001 would have increased by 30%.
