SAN JOSE-The last remaining movie theater in downtown San Jose may have to shut their doors if its operators cannot negotiate a renewal lease with the City of San Jose that would include a renovation loan.

Camera Cinemas, which has been around for 27 years, is trying to reach a new lease agreement and a low-interest loan to renovate and expand the Camera 3 Theater on Second and San Carlos Streets. However, after several months of meetings between theater officials and the city, there has been no progress.

Camera Cinemas officials say that lease agreements are especially difficult in downtown San Jose. It may be even harder at this time since the city is negotiating with The Palladium Co. to build a $1 billion shopping and entertainment district that will include a multi-screen movie theater.
