The new store is 130,000 sf after Sam's added 13,000 sf to its original 117,000 sf. It automatically becomes an anchor at the center, joining Best Buy and Academy Sports. Other retailers in the center include Mattress Firm, Sports Clips, CD Warehouse and Today's Vision. The center's restaurant line up includes Applebee's and Austin-based Serrano's.
Sam's Club, the membership-fee division of Benton, AR-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc., joins a Wal-Mart store in another shopping center in the 290-MoPac area. Other big box retailers in the area are Target and Home Depot.
With the new store, Wal-Mart has three Sam's Clubs in the Austin area. Costco, a Sam's Club rival, opened an Austin store last fall in the northwest submarket.
