GlobeSt.com QUICK SURVEY Results: Recovery Around the Corner

NEW YORK CITY-The general economy will start to show signs of picking up in Q2 or Q3, our respondents tell us, with a half-year lag time for real estate. Sept. 11, as tragic as it was, seems to have a fading impact on the industry's activity.

NEW YORK CITY-At the recent Real Estate Conference Group gathering in LA, Sam Zell made the rather glum prediction that the economy won’t pick up until Q4 of this year. At the other end of the spectrum, optimistic pundits have wiped their rose-colored glasses and pronounced that the recovery is already here.

Not surprisingly, respondents to GlobeSt.com’s most recent Quick Survey say the truth lies somewhere in between. Also of note, the added economic weight imposed by the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 at last seems to be lifting.

Some 29.5% of our participants report that Q2 will bring about the upturn, while a close 27.7% believe it will happen in the third quarter. A total of 25.9% of our participants side with the optimistic pundits, while 16.9% throw their dour support in with Zell.
