Late last month, the property owner, Pioneer Towing, announced the partnership formed to develop LakePointe, had dissolved, according to the city of Kenmore Web site.

The proposed site is located just east of the Kenmore Air Harbor Seaplane terminal. Plans for the 45-acre site on the shores of Lake Washington include 350,000 sf of office space, 300,000 sf of retail and commercial space, 1,200 residential units (both rental and condominium), a marina and more than 4,200 surface and underground parking spaces. The proposed development also includes construction of a new road connecting Highway 522 and Bothell Way NE.

The mixed-use nature of the development is intended to provide nearly a mile of Lake Washington and Sammamish River channel shoreline public access. A waterfront promenade will be developed for pedestrian use along the existing barge channel.

In August 2001, the state Department of Ecology issued a consent decree regarding cleanup of the materials and residues left on the site as part of its past industrial uses. The decree spells out he actions a developer must take to secure permits. The developer has received those permits. For construction to begin, engineering plans for the roadways and storm detention system and building permits must be submitted by the developer and approved by the city.

The city says the developer still intends to pursue the project, but not until a partner can be found.
