Like Jarvis's portfolio, the new hotel, which will include leisure and business facilities will be aimed at the increasing level of business travellers using Glasgow Airport as well as the tourist market. It will be a flagship property within BAA's expanding hotel portfolio.

Insignia Hotels has been appointed to conduct the operator selection process and the hotel is planned to open in 2004.

Insignia Hotels managing director Derek Gammage commented: 'We are seeing a renewed level of business confidence in 2002 and we expect this to be reinforced by increasing levels of interest in new hotel developments at prime locations, such as airports. Glasgow will certainly benefit from the expected up-turn in both transatlantic and European travel and a new four star hotel will be a significant addition to the infrastructure at Glasgow International Airport.'
