The project, consistent with the master plan, includes a new skier services portal, a five-star, luxury hotel; riverfront townhomes; more than 400 additional "hot beds;" 50,000 sf of retail space, a small number of single-family home sites, improved auto and pedestrian access.
Complementing the historical architecture of Vail, classic European architecture will be featured throughout the Lionshead area.
"The Lionshead revitalization project has been one of the highest priorities for our company for a number of years," says chairman and CEO Adam Aron. "We have assembled an outstanding team of experts to create a plan that upholds Vail's tradition of excellence, innovation and classic European architecture. We have gone to great lengths to address the needs of our guests and the community. This project captures the essence of Vail and will rejuvenate Vail's west village in a manner consistent with premier, world-class destinations."
A team of 30 from Vail Resorts Development Co., Design Workshop in Vail and Hart/Howerton Architects in San Francisco and New York City are working on plans that comply with height and density requirements. They also will incorporate view corridors as outlined in the master plan. In maintaining the integrity of the architectural theme identified in the master plan, Vail Resorts proposes the construction of buildings and pedestrian spaces based on historical alpine references as guidelines.
The overall project encompasses nearly 16 acres and five major sites owned by Vail Resorts, all located within about a half-mile of one another.
