Included in the project are plans to expand surgical services. The hospital's surgical volume has increased by more than 30% during the past five years.
The expansion will give Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital the newest operating rooms in Oakland County and will increase the hospital's surgical capabilities and capacity.
The construction project also includes plans to build a new north entrance and lobby, add employee and visitor/patient parking, expand the cafeteria and move the Krieger Geriatric Center.
Construction will begin this summer and the project is expected to be completed in 2004.
As the largest private employer in the city of Detroit with more than 13,000 employees, the company operates nine hospitals and institutes, two nursing centers and more than 50 primary care practices throughout Southeast Michigan.
