However, a spokeswoman for Kojaian says it's possible the companies could build another tower on the land.

"We've talked to [architect firm] Yamasaki, things are very preliminary," says Jeanine Mixdorf, marketing director for Kojaian.

New York developer R. Eric Castro of Endeco International has said he wants to build 2.6 million sf of office and retail space, condominiums, a hotel, restaurants and possibly even entertainment venues, such as a movie theater or other uses, in a 40-story tower. The $900-million development would go up south of the Top of Troy building, south of Big Beaver Road and west of I-75.

Castro says he's also had talks with Kojaian Cos. about buying the Top of Troy building, the current tallest office building in Troy. Adding the Kojaian property to his project would bring the project size to 40 acres.

Castro had claimed he would announce his plans for the property to the city in January. However, no official announcement has taken place. Castro could not be reached for comment.

Mixdorf says her company has not talked to Castro about buying the Top of Troy, but sent message to him asking him to desist in talking about buying its building.

"We're not interested in any capacity to sell," Mixdorf says.

The company put $3.5 million of renovations into the building, updated the lobby and upgraded the exterior and hvac system, Mixdorf tells GlobeSt.com. "We're very happy with the success of the tower. That's why we're looking at possible expansion on the site," she adds.

A possible location for a new tower could be between the large parking lot area east of the Top of Troy and I-75, she notes.
