But according to Richard Ruggiero, development manager for the project, called Eastbrook Crossing, "we are trying to comply as much as we can." To that end, Wight has moved ten of the townhouse units originally proposed to be sited close to a conservation area back to the apartment building site and donated those two acres to the town. The project is now located on two and a half acres.
The current site is zoned partly for residential use and partly for commercial use and that has complicated the issue of height restrictions for the project. But the proposed buildings here would be higher than the 48 feet allowed in a commercially zoned area. Ruggiero says that the project has been changed to reduce the height of the buildings closer to the residential area and increase the height of the buildings that abut forested land. The plan is due to go before the town's zoning board of appeals shortly.
The project is geared towards seniors 55 and over and the one and two bedroom units will range in price from $275,000 to $300,000. The affordable units will be about $100,000.
