The Austin newcomer is InTime Software Inc., based in Cupertino, CA. It's taking 2,500 sf at 6850 Austin Centre Blvd. in the northwest submarket. Workers in the office will sell and support InTime's software used in the design of computer chips. The company also opened a sales and support office in Westborough, MA.

With its acquisition of Alchemy, a venture-backed startup, Sunnyvale, CA-based AMD is making a bid to become a competitor in the market for chips designed for mobile devices such as personal digital assistants (PDAs), web tablets, and portable and wired Internet access devices and gateways. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Alchemy, founded in 1999, has offices at the Exchange Park building, 7800 Shoal Creek, in the north Central submarket. AMD has established a new unit, Personal Connectivity Solutions, around Alchemy and may take more office space for the operation in northwest Austin, the company says.
