According to an official with the town, there is an existing comprehensive permit for the site, which was granted over 20 years ago. The permit allows a developer to bypass local zoning laws provided the project has a 25% affordable housing component and the town has not reached its required 10% affordable housing. The official tells GlobeSt.com that Westwood's affordable housing is at 7.24% but this project would bring it up to 10% as the developer has proposed making 25% of the units in the addition affordable.
