NEW YORK CITY-The Lower Manhattan Development Corp. has named urban planner Alexander Garvin as vice president for planning, design and development. He will coordinate the planning process for redeveloping the World Trade Center site and the surrounding Downtown areas.

Garvin, whose appointment was revealed Saturday, will work with a core group of two urban planners while continuing to serve on a volunteer basis as planning director for NYC2012, the not-for-profit organization dedicated to bringing the Olympic Games here in 2012. He will also continue to serve on the New York City Planning Commission.

“The revitalization of Lower Manhattan presents many complex challenges. We need to develop an appropriate way to honor those who perished on September 11th,” says Garvin. “The residents, business and property owners of lower Manhattan expect to get back to normal as quickly as possible.”
