BOSTON-WGBH, the city’s local public broadcaster, will move to Brighton Landing here at the corner of Guest and Market Streets. WGBH is looking to consolidate all of its television, radio, interactive and educational activities. There is speculation that Harvard University will be interested in acquiring the space WGBH is vacating.

The new location, a seven-story building that totals 300,000 sf, will provide WGBH with 40,000 additional sf of space and will accommodate all of WGBH’s activities at one site. The station currently occupies over a dozen buildings. Of those buildings, WGBH owns 125,000 sf of the space it is on now and leases the other 135,000 sf from Harvard University. The new building will provide office space for staff and there are plans for an adjoining broadcast studio to be built at the corner of Market and Beacon Streets for television and radio productions.

According to Jeanne Hopkins, vice president for corporate communications for WGBH, Harvard owns a good deal of the land that surrounds WGBH’s current offices and “it makes sense for them to acquire these sites.”
