Denver Zoo Opens $17.5M Parking Garage

DENVER-An $8.5-million certificate of participation issued by the city and county of Denver will be repaid with zoo admission fees. Also, financing came from $7.5 million from the zoo's improvement bond fund as well as $1.5 million from Denver's neighborhood improvement bond fund.

DENVER-A year after construction started, the Denver Zoo has opened its 764-space, $17.5 million parking garage. The new garage is just west of the main entrance plaza.

The garage was funded by three sources: $1.5 million from Denver’s Neighborhood Improvement Bond Fund, which voters approved in 1998; $7.5 million from the zoo’s improvement bond fund; and an $8.5-million certificate of participation issued by the city and county of Denver. The $8.5 million will be repaid with zoo admission fees.

The new garage includes closed-circuit security cameras, emergency call stations on all covered levels, natural light throughout the top three levels, an in-house security office and regular security patrols.
