Property owners in the Shadowridge neighborhood and the Business and Technology Park are expected to vote via mail-in ballot on the new taxes as early as March, with other areas of Vista expected to follow.
The city council voted Tuesday to create new assessment districts that will pay for streetlights, landscaping, street sweeping and traffic signals. However, state law requires property owners to approve new taxes.
The city will have to cut services if property owners do not approve the assessments, city leaders say. The council voted 3-0 yesterday to approve forming the special assessment districts.
The city is expected to create similar districts for the rest of Vista in coming months. They are intended to add to existing assessment districts.
