Among the properties are the Columbia village centers Wilde Lake, Oakland Mills, Harper's Choice, Long Reach, Hickory Ridge, Kings' Contrivance, Dorsey Search and River Hill. The Dobbin Center, Columbia Crossing and Gateway are also part of the deal. The 23-acre Wilde Lake was the first village center and opened in 1967. Most of the properties have since undergone revitalization efforts. The Kimco side of the joint venture will serve as property manager at all of the sites.

Rouse senior vice president Alton Scavo says, "We developed and managed most of Columbia's retail space over the past 35 years." Scavo will also serve as K-R Columbia general manager. "[Rouse's] two major areas of business focus are large-scale regional retail centers and large-scale community developments. With Columbia's villages nearing completion, it is appropriate to bring in an operator/manager whose primary business is running these kinds of properties." Developer Jim Rouse began to create the city of Columbia in the early- and mid-1960's when he purchased more than 15,000 acres of rural Howard County farmland and began to build a community of retail villages, housing and all that comes with a new town.
