Demolition of the northeast section of the village has begun in order to make room for the 32,000--sf store. Room also will be made for the Land of Nod, a children's furniture business, which recently partnered with Crate and Barrel.
Crate and Barrel will anchor what's known as Village North. Completion is slated for summer 2003.
Crate and Barrel currently has more than 80 stores in 15 major markets nationwide, including Bellevue, Wash. The 45-year-old U-Village underwent a serious facelift in the 1990s, which transformed the facility into a regional shopping center.
