The lands are in 14 counties in the mountainous terrain west of the continental divide, with most of the lands being located within 50 miles east and west of Missoula, extending to the Idaho State line, and within 60 miles west of Kalispell in northwestern Montana.
The mineral rights and fee lands contain many known occurrences of gold, silver, copper, barite, phosphate and other mineral commodities.
All of the lands owned or leased by Canyon Resources or the Seven-Up Pete Venture in Lewis & Clark County, which includes the 10-million-ounce McDonald Gold Project, will be excluded from this auction process.
The Forestry and Resource Division under Bob Hatcher, the former president of the Realtor's Land Institute, is a key part of Sheldon Good's plans for growth, says Steven Good, chairman and chief executive officer of Sheldon Good & Co.
"In terms of acreage, the Canyon Resources offering is most likely the largest sale of its type in the history of the auction industry," Good says.
The Sheldon Good staff will evaluate the property holdings to determine the best way to parcel the properties for the public auction. The details of the auction format will be announced once the evaluation is completed -- it is expected to be held in the latespring of 2002.
Good says he sees interest in the mineral rights coming from timber companies, mining companies, conservation groups and individual landowners.
Golden CO-based Canyon Resources' mineral rights offering is the first offering of Sheldon Good's newly established forestry division, launched in July 2001 when Steven Good Partners International completed its purchase of Sheldon Good & Co.
