John Reynolds, Head of Property at McDonald's Property Group said: 'Industry research shows that the Quick Service Restaurant market is forecast to grow by up to 3% per annum between now and 2004, so there is everything to play for in terms of McDonald's taking its share of that market.'

Reynolds said Mcdonalds would be looking to plug gaps in the existing UK coverage, with more town centre an drive-thru units. 'We will be looking at sites in both urban and out-of-town locations which maximise economic return to us,' he said.

The expansion takes the value of McDonald's UK property portfolio to over £1.25 billion ($1.8 billion) covering over five million sf, making it one of the retail and catering sector's biggest property owners.
