Senate Bill 6375, introduced by Sen. Darlene Fairley, D-Lake Forest Park and Sen. Joseph Zarelli, R-Vancouver, is fairly similar to that proposed by Gov. Gary Locke, which called for $100 million in construction projects. But the Senate plan calls for a different set of buildings, involving mostly minor renovations, and a different method of financing.

Included in SB 6375 are provisions for weatherization, administered through the energy matchmakers program ($9 million) and the development of affordable housing for the disabled ($5 million).

The proposal passed out of the Senate Ways and Means Committee this week and moves onto a vote of the full Senate. In order to become law, the capital budget must be approved by at least 60 percent of both the House and Senate.
