FRAMINGHAM, MA-If National Development break ground on its 721-unit residential complex in a former sand-and-gravel pit here, it will come out of the ground as one of the town’s largest multifamily projects. But that claim to fame is also a major hurdle, and town officials have asked the Newton-based developer to conduct a comprehensive traffic study on the impact of the project.

According to Kathy Bartolini, director of planning and economic development for the town, the complex would have “major traffic implications.” Rather than do an analysis on the immediate environs of the project, as is standard, the town wants National Development to do a study on the “whole sector of the community.”
