Spencer Hayes, a founder of Colliers Oxford, will assume the managing partner duties at the real estate company. "All of us Colliers appreciate Bill's service to our country," Hayes said. "Bill's leadership has been instrumental in the success of our company."

Welch joined Colliers in February 2000 to oversee the day-to-day operations of the company. He replaced Mike Tipps, a Colliers founder, who wanted to get back to working with clients.

Welch has worked in Austin real estate, starting as a commercial real estate broker for Coldwell Banker Commercial. He worked for Paragaon Group, which was later bought by Insignia Commercial Group.

In leaving Colliers, Welch also plans to spend more time with his other business interests, according to Colliers. His non-real estate businesses are retail, ranching and aviation. Hayes, Tipps and principal Bob Wynn founded Colliers in 1992 when the former Austin Cushman & Wakefield of Texas office merged with Oxford Group.
