Probation for Environmental Violations

MARQUETTE, MI-Thomas Wight Davis pleads guilty to building a road over wetlands. He must pay a $10,000 fine plus reimburse the state nearly $24,000 for its costs and restore damaged property.

MARQUETTE, MI-A developer has been fined more than $10,000 and put on two years probation for violating Michigan’s wetland laws following an investigation by the Department of Environmental Quality. Thomas Wight Davis pleaded guilty in the 93rd District Court to constructing a road system across streams and through regulated wetlands in Alger County without a state permit.

District Court Judge Bruce Plackowski ordered Davis to pay $10,000 in fines, $23,940 to reimburse the state for investigative costs and $2,400 in attorney fees. In addition, Davis was sentenced to two years of supervised probation and a suspended 90-day jail term, and was ordered to restore the affected streams and wetlands to their natural state.
