OLYMPIA, WA-Plans for a roughly $20-million conference center to be built on a nearly 4-acre parcel owned by the Port of Olympia have been revealed.Spokane developer David Brubaker has suggested the center be built under the Green buildings guidelines and will include a full-service kitchen and about 100 guest rooms for conference use, rather than an adjacent hotel. The center also is to be owned by a public facilities district, comprised of the cities of Lacey, Olympia and Tumwater. Harrison Conference Centers, a division of Hilton Hotels Corp., would run the facility. The 3.7-acre center would contain on-site parking and room for center expansion. Developers recommend that an adjacent 6.7 acres of port property be earmarked for future center expansion or mixed-use development. The facility would include about 13,000 sf of main hall meeting space, including smaller rooms with classroom-style seating and high-tech amenities for training sessions.Construction of the project is expected to take two years.
